Trip Report

Eleven Obsidians and one prospective member met at the Fox Hollow Trailhead parking lot and enjoyed the sun on a brisk morning. We discussed safety and our tasks for the day focusing on the proper way to carry tools and emphasizing making pruning cuts. We set off from the trailhead hiking up the Tie Trail to begin our work for the day raking and cutting back storm debris from the trail. The bulk of our work occurred up the trail from the large 52-inch log as multiple trees had fallen together leaving 6 to 8 inches of debris that we scooped, pitched, and raked off the trail widening it to City standard. We were surprised to find that the debris had been insulating ice since the ice storm. We also removed 3 hangers from the trail corridor. While we made great progress the Tie Trail will need another outing due to the amount of storm debris. The Tie Trail was the hardest hit section of the trail we've been on so far.

Special thanks go to Janet for bringing persimmon bread that made for a great mid-outing snack.
