Jet Boat Trip

Description:

Trip sponsored by the bus committee. Meet at 7:00 AM at the Amtrak Station to get your boarding pass from Judy Adamcyk. The Amtrak train #504 departs at 7:45 for Portland where the group will be met by a local bus company and driven to the dock to load onto the Portland Spirit Company's jet boat. Enjoy a 3 1/2 hour ride to Multnomah Falls and back. The group will be driven by the local bus company back to the Portland Amtrak Station where they will ride Amtrak train #507 back to Eugene. Train departs Portland at 6:09 pm, arriving back in Eugene at approximately 8:47pm. Check in with Judy Adamcyk. There is wi-fi on the train. Please send check for $65 to Judy Garwood 4145 East Amazon Drive, Eugene Oregon. 97405. Payment is due no later than April 2.

  • Supplies and Equipment Required: Dress for the weather. The boat has open sides so be prepared for rain and wind. You are able to take snacks and food onto the train and the boat. A cafe is available on the train and there are places to eat in or near the Portland Amtrak Station while waiting for the return trip to Eugene.

Trip Report

Twenty-six members and seven nonmembers met at the Eugene train station at 7:00 a.m to ride Amtrak to Portland. From the Portland train station we boarded a chartered bus for the Portland Spirit jet boat near OMSI. Our guide Morey pointed out bridges, buildings, and other landmarks as we jetted down the Willamette River to the Columbia River. From the confluence we headed upstream to the Columbia Gorge and Multnomah Falls, eating our sack lunches along the way. After a brief photo opportunity at the falls, we sprinted down the Columbia at 35 miles per hour, retracing our route. Other sights included Rooster Rock, Crown Point, and the St. Johns Bridge. We returned to the Eugene train station at 9:00 p.m., making for a long day.
