Description:

This hike starts at the Duffy Lake trailhead and goes past Duffy and Mowich Lakes before heading up a red cinder cone called Red Butte. We'll have lunch on top while enjoying the great views. On the way back a stop for a swim in Duffy Lake is a real possibility. There is a $1 per person fee to cover the cost of the permit. Some of us may decide to stop at Takoda's restaurant on the way home.

Trip Report

Our group made their way past Duffy and Mowich Lakes to scramble up the steep trail to the summit of Red Butte. A cool breeze at the top allowed us to enjoy the beautiful views during our lunch despite the warm weather. On the way back we stopped at Duffy Lake for a refreshing swim before finishing the last three miles of a very dusty trail.
