Trip Report

The team of 10 climbers left the parking lot at Timerline at 4:15am and enjoyed the beginning of the day hiking up to the Hogsback area at 10800'. At the Top of the Palmer lift one participant decided to turn aorund. We arrived at the Hogsback after 5 hours of climbing. One more participant decided. to wait for the team to return at the Hogsback. Another 1-1/2 hours of climbing steeper terrain through the 2 O'Clock couloir got us to the summit around 11am. Since I had checked out the knif edge traverse to the 1 O'Clock couloir it was safe and we descended that way to the Old Chute. After 200-250' of stiff downclimbing and frontpointing the team of 8 returned to the Hogsback.
Some participants plunge stepped down, some glissaded partway.
Besides the leader and one participant the 6 other climbers had not summited Mt Hood before this climb.
Back at the parking lot after 10-1/2 hours of climbing and descending.
