Lodge Art Gallery / Photography Hike

  • Start date: 05/03/2025

  • Start time: 10:00 AM

Description:

Art lovers are invited to the Obsidian Lodge where we'll spend about an hour looking at the permanent collection and the temporary gallery exhibit of Joanna Alexander's watercolors. Optional:  a slowpaced pre-Mother's Day walk to the Hendricks Park Rhododendron Garden, where we may finish with a picnic lunch; another option: certain may wish to set up a shuttle if the 2 mile circuit back to the Lodge is more than they feel comfortable with.  I am opening the outing to 30 and assuming no more than 20 may take the hike over to Hendricks.
If visiting lodge only, participants please email Joanna (joalexgypsy@gmail.com). Park at the Obsidian Lodge; directions to the lodge at https://obsidians.org/directions/

Trip Report

Joella Ewing brought cake and remained at the Lodge for art visitors only after Dorothy Van Winkle and Joanna Alexander led guest Jane Danyu among the Lodge historical photos and art work. On our walk toward Hendricks Park Rhody Garden, we shared mutual enthusiasm for the green lushness of Mother Nature along the forest trail We sought out every deep pink rose blossom to savor their sweet perfume. Abundant fringecup with their fairy wands of little blooms lined the trail. A fritillary (checker lily) in bloom, fragrant false Solomon seal, and a host of budding tigerlilies delighted. A cool morning with the clouds lifting to bathe it all in bright sunshine. In the Rhododendron garden thick fields of lilies of the valley, irises in many colors and forms, a flamboyant show of azaleas and rhodies did not disappoint.
