Lawler Trail to Rock Knob
-
Start date: 03/27/2025
-
Start time: 8:30 AM
Description:
Lawler Trail goes through old growth forest, has interesting rock formations and it leads to the beautiful lookout point at Rock Knob. The trail is rated moderate because it can be rocky and steep at times.
We will meet at the LCC east parking lot and leave promptly at 8:30. Taking Hwy 58 along Lookout Point Reservoir, we turn right at Patterson Mountain Road (which is #5840) and go south 0.5 miles. Take the left fork (#5840-531 but sign is down), Go 1.8 miles and take a right at the fork (#5480-535, sign is also down). Go 0.5 miles to where the road is blocked by fallen trees. We park at a small turn-around spot and walk about a half mile on a moist path to the trailhead.
Gravel roads: The roads are decent. There is one big pothole of note that requires care to avoid. The last half mile of the drive is narrow and little-used. My small car with low clearance can do it easily though.
