Lodge Grounds Work Party

Description:

After an assessment made by a Eugene Fire Marshall, the Grounds Chairs have come up with a plan to create a defensible space around the lodge. The work party will carry on with mowing and maintaining the grounds as well as begin the process of clearing flammable plants and materials near the building. Bring loupers, clippers, trowels, gloves, small and big shovels, and we will find a task to match your tools. Bring a snack to share, if you would like.

Trip Report

As four early-arriving workers stood talking in the parking lot, a pileated woodpecker flew low over their heads and landed on a piece of wood lying in the old wood pile only feet away. An auspicious beginning. Thus began the workday for the crew creating a defensible space at the lodge. Mowing and weed whacking occurred, chain saws cut down branches and bushes too close to the lodge. Weeding, thinning, digging up and taking out plants kept many busy. The crew worked hard and a lot was accomplished in a few short<br />
hours.
