Lone Wolf/Patterson Mountain Hike”.

  • Start date: 06/09/2025

  • Start time: 8:30 AM

Description:

Lone Wolf Shelter and Patterson Mountain provide timber, wildflowers and a view from the 4460 foot top of the mountain. It's a 40 mile drive from LCC, with the last 8 miles climbing to the ridgetop. The road is gravel and driveable with a couple of slow potholes, 80 round trip miles, $8.80 pay to the drivers. As a leader, I appreciate people who are willing to drive.
This is medium difficulty, 4.6 miles round trip, 600 feet elevation gain.
The trail is in good shape and has switchbacks on the climbs. Bring water, snacks, lunch, poles if you like, and layers appropriate fro the weather. It's often cooler at 4000 feet than the predicted weather for Eugene.
Do call or text if you have questions.

Trip Report

Spending a hot day above 4200 feet means 60 - 80 degrees, not 95 like the valley. This group enjoyed the solitude, timber, flowers and the view. Lone Wolf Shelter is nestled in the timber near a lush meadow. The zig-zag trail follows the ridgeline to Patterson Mountain with a view of Lookout Point Reservoir and the Three Sisters. A gentle breeze made our lunch break on the bench tranquil and calm. What a lovely day on Patterson Mountain!
