Three Mile Lake – Tahkenitch Dunes

**Hike location changed due to fire activity south of NFS Rd 23**
Trip is now heading to the coast: Tahkenitch Dunes Trail - 3 Mile Lake

Departure: 8:30 am from Target on West 11th, park in corner near store/11th.
Arrive 10-15 min early to form carpools.

We'll head out to the coast to this beautiful trail that offers variations in terrain from forest to dunes (a large portion of the trail is on loose sand) and hiking along the beach on hard pack. A relatively easy rope decent is necessary to reach the beach due to last winters erosion. We'll go counter clockwise and take a lunch break near the lake.

A stop in Florence on the return for a cup of coffee or ice cream if the group is interested.

Drivers will need to pay a $5 parking fee unless you have a NW Forest pass or an America The Beautiful pass.

Carpool suggested driver donation: $15.00

Trip Report

What a fabulous day! Perfect weather, and a wonderful group of participants, including two who had not been to this trail before. We enjoyed lunch while sitting on a huge driftwood log, and enjoyed watching a flock of pelicans hang out at the waters edge. All enjoyed a quick stop in Florence for an ice cream after.
