Come to a (work) party on Friday, October 17. We will be working on the grounds again. As always, there is plenty to do. A small new woodshed is now onsite. The firewood stacked around the grounds needs to be collected and stored in the shed. We have a wheelbarrow, but if you have a cart that is easy to use, bring that too. Larger limbs can also be cut up and placed in the woodshed. If you have a chainsaw, it can be put to use on those. The beds continue to need attention - digging up roots and maintaining established plantings. That pesky grass continues to grow so mowers are needed. Some debris remains in the areas needing mowing and needs to be tossed away from the mowing area. The newly ground up and cleared areas are prime grounds for sprouting blackberries. They can be weed whacked to keep them at bay, for the time being. The slope to the east side of the storage shed needs blackberry help. And surely, there is more.

Trip Report

The Obsidian Grounds buzzed with activity on this perfect fall day. I have never seen so much accomplished in one work session. Firewood was gathered and split and filled the new woodshed. All the bits of limbs and trees were cut up. The beds were tackled and tamed as well as all areas mowed. Stubborn roots were dug up by first time volunteers. (Whew! I hope they come back!) Pesky blackberries on a slope got the heave ho. The woodshed door was adjusted.

I am always in awe of these volunteers. They work hard and get things done. Plus, their collective knowledge of trails and the outdoors always takes me aback. Someone asked what the reward is for doing this work. For me, it is the pure privilege to work with these volunteers.
