Past Activity

Westview/Odell Overlook Snowshoe

  • Start date: 01/17/2026

  • Start time: 8:30 AM

Description:

Gold Lakes Sno-park is on Highway 58. We'll do a loop from the parking lot using the Westview Shelter trail, Odell Overlook trail and Abernathy Road. Not sure which direction we'll go yet. 4 miles with frequent stops would be considered easy to some, but the 500' elevation gain on this short ss makes it a good challenge, so you must be in shape.
Dress in layers, with food, water, snowshoes and poles. The temps may range from 30's to high 40's, you can check the NOAA site for updates at the end of the week.
Drivers: Thank you in advance to those willing to drive; AWD vehicles are always preferred, vehicles need a Snow Park Pass. We can only take as many participants as we have vehicles. Suggested carpool fee to drivers: $14.30.

Trip Report

A cold but bluebird sky greeted us in the Gold Sno-Park parking area. Conditions were both packed and crunchy snow. This was a hardy group, willing to ascend immediately by using the left trail junction clockwise, which helped us warm up very quickly! Stopped at Diamond Peak Overlook first, then Odell, where we ate lunch. We visited the Westview Shelter afterwards, fun to see, even without a fire on this day. Many thanks to the drivers, and to all for embracing the various levels of experience - those new to the sport did fantastically!
