Trip Report

Eleven climbers assembled for a one day climb of Diamond Peak, and were on our way to Crescent Lake Junction at 7:00. Before we reached the junction, we had our first of many delays before the day was over. One boiling radiator! After cooling off and a refill from a nearby creek, we were on our way again to Summit Lake. We were ready to start up the trail at 10:00 a.m. but our leader could not see the well-marked trail and took us on a 40-minute walk the wrong way. Finally all were walking briskly up the trail, but after about three miles two of the group decided they had gone far enough on a very hot day and had donated enough blood to the hoards of mosquitoes and stayed behind. After many long rests because of blisters and fatigue, two more had reached their summit and the rest of the group headed for the top one and a half hours away. Reaching the summit at 3:00 p.m. were John Cecil, Bob Devine, Betty Legris, Mike Hackett, Ron Leland, Wayne and leader Lee Hatch. Home at 9:00 p.m. after a long, not too pleasant day.
