Trip Report

We all met at the South Eugene parking lot at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning. We then drove up to the Pamelia Lake trail head by 10:00 a.m. We then hiked up to Hunts Cove, by way of the trail that goes by Pamelia Lake, and had lunch at the cove. We then walked cross country, up out of the Cove, and made our way to Coyote Lake and had our R.S. of the climb. R.S. stands for "required swim." From here we hiked up to Goat Peak, had dinner, and were in bed by 6:00 p.m. We got up at 2:00 a.m. and were climbing by 2:30 a.m. We arrived at the Red Saddle just as the sun popped over the horizon at about 5:45 a.m. Here at the Red Saddle we had our first lunch. We then roped up and crossed the snow field. The snow field was rock hard, but there were some steps left from past climbs, so we did not have any problems, and were across in 15 minutes. We arrived at the summit at about 7:00 a.m. We spent a few minutes taking pictures and climbed back down and were across the snow field and back at the red saddle by 8:00 a.m. We then hiked back down to Goat Peak, packed up our gear, and hiked down to Hunts Cove, past Pamelia Lake and on out to the cars, and drove home. We were back in town by 4:30 p.m. Sunday. A very good climb, and a very good party. Those along were Gerald Williams, Marty Falk, leader Steven McManigal, and finally Kevin McManigal. This trip report was typed and edited by Yours Truly Kevin McManigal. One final comment: the weather was beautiful - cool and slightly breezy, and clear as a monkey's head in a centrifuge. And may you all have a Happy New Year!
