Trip Report

An apprehensive sixteen people met at the Y for a 2:00 p.m. departure for Diamond Lake with the weather very threatening. Leader promised sunburn type weather for the climb in order to keep the entire group from canceling. Arrived at the Diamond Lake Broken Arrow Campground 5:00 p.m. with the weather drizzling and the mountain socked in. Had a good campfire complete with popcorn and lots of comradery. Sunday morning there was ice on the tents, but clear skies and a beautiful mountain visible all the way to the summit. Dorothy Hayes was appointed official pace setter and the group stopped for snow school practice enroute to the summit. A party of fourteen friendly Chemeketans arrived at the pinnacle a few minutes before us, but with the weather and visibility so tremendous no one seemed to mind the long wait. Everyone reached the able assistance of Hatch & Hildreth. The group enjoyed some good glissades on the descent. Trying to postpone returning to the real world after such a fine day the entire group met at Diamond Lake Lodge for sandwiches and coffee before the long drive home. A very congenial group and a great assistant leader made this an exceptional climb. Thanks again, Lee.
