Trip Report

This was the first of two work trips in the Eagles Rest area southeast of Dexter. The old shelter at Ash Swale had been severely vandalised last fall and was in need of quite a few shakes. Peter brought his chain saw along and cut up a very good supply of wood for the shelter. This was stacked inside, and outside for the summer. I have found that keeping a good supply of wood in shelters helps tremendously in preventing vandalism. After our jobs of reshaking, picking up trash, raking the floor, and stacking wood, we went for a short hike on the very old Forest Service trail to the top of Eagles Rest and back down via the BLM/Boy Scout trail to the road. (I turned in 25 hours of volunteer time for us to the Lowell District - Helen Smith.) Volunteers were Bernie Claypool, Emmy Dale, Peter Cecil, Wilbur Groner and leader Helen Smith.
