Trip Report

We left South Eugene parking lot at 8:00 a.m., Saturday; arriving at Frog Camp by 10:00 a.m. We hiked at a steady pace to Sunshine. By the time we made it to the saddle with full packs (it was 5:30 p.m.) we decided to climb Middle Sister. Our nice easy pace got us on top about an hour before sunset. While we were on top we had a short service for Catherine Dunlop lead by Gene Thaxton. We arrived back at camp hungry and exhausted. After dinner we all crashed and tried to sleep to the noisy wind. We left camp at 7:30 a.m. the next morning to climb North. We arrived at the large snow field a couple of hours later. It took two hours to cross the 275 foot snow field. On top we had another service for Catherine. We made it back to camp by 3:00 p.m. From there we slid down one long snow field right into Sunshine. We arrived in Eugene by 8:30 p.m. Climbers were Gary and Sue Doolittle, Dave and Mark Lewinsohn, Gene Thaxton, Fran Gnose, Steve McManigal, Bill Wood, and leader Ken Daletas. (Catherine's ashes were distributed on both Middle and North Sisters - Editor.)
