Description:

I found an old Sweet Home Ranger District booklet that describes this hike with the elevation gain given as 1100 ft. The trail takes us through a mix of forest and meadows, along and then across a creek, to two lakes tucked in the forest. Several hikers enjoyed a swim in the lake before lunch last year (6/25/17). Mosquitos were present, but not particularly bothersome.

Trip Report

We had a pleasant, sunny day for this hike, which was new to nearly all of the participants. The meadows were not yet in full bloom, but still impressive in their mass of flowers and sheer size. At one time long ago these meadows were lakes. Past the meadows the trail crosses over a ridge with numerous old-growth trees. Several hikers enjoyed a swim in N. Gordon Lake during our lunch/rest break while others enjoyed watching the newts and crawdads in the shallow water near the shore or just rested and enjoyed the lake view. This trail gets little use by hikers, which is a shame, because it has a lot of interesting features along the way.
