Description:

This is an easy hike close to town. The hike is mostly on gravel roads, except for the last short section through forest to the summit of the mountain.
Our destination is mostly undisturbed by human activity, and has almost zero invasive plants growing in it. Because of this, we need to make sure that our hiking shoes are completely clean, and we do not carry any seeds on them.
Another request is that people who hike this trail do not bring any other groups of people to the location, and not post anything about it online that prompts people to visit the area.

Trip Report

This hike turned out to be a bit more difficult than most people expected, despite good weather and a relatively short distance. After climbing over the dirt barricade beyond the parking area, the group found that many obstacles lay ahead. The road continued through an old-growth forest, where trees blocked the path at various points. Despite recent warm weather, streams still ran full down the slopes above and below the road, leaving many people with wet feet. Hundreds of wild irises were blooming along the route but were sometimes hard to spot in the thick shrubbery. After nearly a mile of climbing, crawling and jumping, we intersected a more well used and maintained road through a large clear-cut. We were all relieved to have left the areas of difficult passage, and continued on our hike towards Grassy Mountain. After leaving the clear-cut, we bushwhacked a short distance to the summit meadow. Everyone was happy to have a rest and eat lunch, while enjoying wildflowers and excellent views. After exploring the summit area, the group headed down the hill, prepared to surmount the obstacles lying ahead. Everyone got back to the cars safely, though scraped and slightly muddy. Through the many challenges, everyone stayed in good spirits and enjoyed reaching the destination.
