Besides close up views of Jack we'll be able to see view a variety of lakes and peaks from this often open trail. At about 6.5 we'll look down to Canyon Creek Meadows to the east and toward Santiam and Duffy Lakes to the west. In another 3 miles we reach Minto pass and leave the PCT. Our path descends to Wasco Lake and then we can loop through Canyon Creek Meadows. It's possible to forgo this loop and shorten the hike by 1.8 miles. We meet the other hiking group and Jack Lake Trailhead.
**How many drivers are on the other hike limits the number of people that can go on this hike. I'm starting with a limit of 9. hopefully that can be bumped to the wilderness limit of 12.

Trip Report

We had a wonderful day and got a break from soon to return hot weather. The 12 of us set off from a very crowded PCT parking lot at Santiam Pass. Traveling north through part of the B&B burn we had nice views back to Washington and the Sisters. There is a contrasting beauty to this area with all the bleached out dead snags and the recovering greenery of small trees, flowers, and shrubs. Climbing steadily, we passed under the ruggedness of 3-fingered Jack’s west face. By noon we arrived at our lunch spot where the PCT over the north ridge of Jack. This is a special place with panoramic views of the mountain’s geology and Canyon Creek Meadows spreading out below. Then we followed the PCT north toward Minto Pass stopping to take in the view above Wasco Lake. From the pass we dropped down to the lake where we heard someone call out “yo, Obsidians”. It was a member of the group that had dropped us off at the trailhead earlier. They were on their own hike to explore Canyon Creek and relax at Wasco Lake. Our group headed on to the Meadows with their abundance of flowers. Such a refreshing destination after hiking through a little bit more burn leaving Wasco Lake. Both groups arrived at the cars at Jack Lake within about 10 minutes of each other, anxious to share stories of the day and head home.
