Description:

Meet at the downtown EMX Eugene Customer Service Center at 1080 Willamette Street.
This event is to promote using the bus so I hope you can ride the bus to our departure place.. If you are eligible for the free Honored Ride Pass and need to apply for one, allow time to get one. We will board EMX around 9:40 to ride to the Springfield Service Station to begin our walk. From there we will walk behind the horse statue (Oregon Statehood Memorial dedicated in 1960 for Oregon’s 100th birthday), under the Willamette Bridge to Island Park to connect with the Ruth Bascom Riverpath System. We will pass the Knickerbocker Bridge, some Kalapuya Talking Stones, the Frohnmayer Bike Bridge (formerly Autzen Footbridge) to the Peter DeFazio Pedestrian Bridge when we will back to city center. The walk should take around 2 hours. If the weather is nice, some may choose to continue on to the next bridge. Optional is lunch at Soup Nation or 5th Street Market. Email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions about bus passes, etc. There are clean bathrooms at the Eugene and Springfield LTD Service Stations.

Trip Report

It was hard to recognize each other bundled up in rain gear at the LTD Eugene Service station. I recommend that the leader not have her rain hat pulled down over her face. At 9:40 seven of us boarded the crowded EMX to mingle with Univeristy of Oregon students. At the LTD Springfield Service station, Steve Adey led us on paths to Island Park and river trails. Some of us decided to hike the recently opened Skinner Butte trails before we headed back to downtown Eugene. Another lesson learned: Take the road or the O trail, not the E trail.
