Description:

Our trip takes us to Winston for tours of Wildlife Safari. If you have never been to this wild Animal Park, you are in for a treat. This is a drive through park where the animals are free to roam and you are in a cage (vehicle). Perhaps we will even see some baby animals. Leaving Shopko at 8 a.m. we travel south on I-5, stopping along the way for our coffee break. Upon arriving at the park, we will be joined by a step on guide for our first tour. The guide will have interesting information to share about the animals and their habitat. We will then have some free time for lunch, browsing the gift shop and checking out the animals and birds in the walk through area. Lunch is on your own; you can purchase lunch at the village café or bring a sack lunch with you. We will then make a second tour through the park on our own. We may see different animals up close this time. Time permitting; we will drive the back roads home; planning to be back at Shopko around 5 pm.

Trip Report

Our trip to Wildlife Safari was a pleasant day. We had 24 riders, including a few who were on their first bus trip. Leaving Shopko at 8 we traveled to our coffee break destination near Roseburg. Then on to Wildlife Safari park. We were fortunate to have a cool overcast day. Our step on guide rode through the park with us for the first loop. She was very knowledgeable about the park’s history and the animals. The animals were active the first loop and even more so when we drove through on the second loop in early afternoon. We were able to enjoy close-up viewing of lions, cheetahs, bears hippos, giraffe, rhino and so much more. We had leisurely time to stroll around the village, view the caged animals, birds and reptiles and have our lunch. Of course our trip would not be complete without an ice cream stop at Rice Hill on the way home. As people left the bus at home I heard many comments about what a relaxing and enjoyable day it was for them.
