Adams Mountain – “Conditioning” hike

Get ready for the coming climbing season. We’ll hike the Adams Mtn Way Trail (relentlessly up) then run the ridge on the Knott and descend the Crawfish Trail. There is likely to be snow on the Knott Trail.

Trip Report

I decided to do the loop counter-clockwise and visit the summit of Adams Mountain instead of clockwise. We hiked up the Crawfish Trail where we found the, um, mountain bike specific trail maintenance that the DOD club is performing. Snow above the upper road made following the trail difficult. We had lunch in a meadow with a view of Bohemia Mountain and Fairview Peak. We then followed the ridge (and Knott Trail when where it was snow free) to the summit, where Julie demonstrated her tree pose. We then retraced our way back to the car, choosing not to try making our way along the Knott Trail to Adams Mountain Way, thus avoiding the risk of getting lost on the snow-covered trail, and having to hike a mile along Brice Creek Road. All agreed that this made for a satisfying conditioning hike.
