Description:

For the first outing of 2016 we will work on the Amazon Headwaters trail. We plant and mulch about 30 plants as well as do some drainage and trail brushing.

Trip Report

For this month's outing we returned to the Martin Street Trailhead of the Amazon Headwaters Trail for our 3rd planting project to continue to attempt to re-vegetate it. We worked with EPOS' Dev Cochrane to plant about 30 plants including maple trees, ocean spray, Oregon grape, etc. After completing the planting portion in about 10 minutes, we worked to place wood chips around all the newly planted plants as well as the surviving plants from previous plantings. Our volunteer forked into wheelbarrows, pushed wheelbarrows, and spread about 25 yards of wood chips over the remaining nearly 3 hours. Todd and Dev worked to place wire cages around the newly planted plants to protect them from the ravages of hungry deer. As we worked we were passed by a surprising number of familiar faces which included current and former City staff and Obsidians.
