Annual Beach Barefoot

  • Start date: 07/17/2026

  • Start time: 7:00 AM

Description:

Join me on my Annual Obsidian barefoot hike. This year we will start at Holman Vista day use area.
First, we will cross the Sutton Creek by scaling over the huge log and then hike on the beach north, cross 10” deep Berry Creek and continue to the Darko’s Hidden Cove. After the snack break we will hike back pretty much same way. Low tide (-1.1 ft) will be at 10:02 AM

We are designed to walk barefoot but evolved to shoe wearing creatures. Barefoot walking is candid way to feel the earth under your feet.
There are many health benefits and some risks associated with going barefoot. Please use common sense. Carry sandals or (and) thick socks and use in case you are unable to handle sand under your feet. Suggested mileage donation $13.75.

Trip Report

Our cheerful group of 17 Obsidians enjoyed a stunningly beautiful day on the Oregon Coast--blue skies, no wind, a minus tide....We started at Holman Vista and after helping each other cross Sutton Creek on a log, we made our way up and over the dune to reach the beach. As we walked north, the receding tide left puddles with interesting textures and exposed colorful sea stars. When we reached \"Darko\'s Hidden Cove\" we enjoyed a snack and exploring the cliffs before heading back south. Our final beach activity was a joyful \"hokey pokey.\"
