Patrick Wegner of the Arboretum staff will give us the directions. As leader, I will float between the two exhibits as best I can given the terrain change.

There are convenient toilets very near our meeting point.

The last 15 minutes will be stories from the woods, from the leader.

Please meet at 9:45AM at the southwest end of Main parking lot at Pisgah.

Trip Report

The first visit by the Obsidians to help out at the Mt. Pisgah Arboretum was a success! With six members and one guest, we were instructed by Patrick Wegner and Executive Director Ilana Jakubowski, who did her share of spreading gravel and cutting back growth. We worked at the Oak Savannah exhibit, removing grass encroachment on the walkway, starting to put Fescue into areas that were used as shortcuts, took out organic growth on the paths, spread gravel over almost all of the paths until we ran out of gravel, and with Angie and Patrick\'s supervision, weeded out the small circular area with a bench around. We aren\'t done, but we almost are, and we will wait for Patrick\'s instructions for the next visit to finish this area and perhaps begin work on the Oak Woodlands exhibit.
