Bachelor Mt via Bugaboo Ridge

  • Start date: 07/08/2024

  • Start time: 8:00 AM

Description:

This is a trip up Bachelor Mt via Bugaboo Ridge, a hike that some say has better views and wildflowers than Iron Mt. After the hike some of us will be stopping at Takoda's for dinner so choose your driver depending on where you'd like to go.

JULY 6 UPDATE: As the Forest Service has closed road 2234 to our trailhead, we'll be taking the alternate route up Bachelor Mt via road 1168. We'll still be able to access the wildflower meadows from the trail junction to Bruno Meadows.

Trip Report

Despite the hot weather, a group of eight headed up to the Cascades to hike to the summit of Bachelor Mountain. Because the east trailhead was closed due to logging, we drove eight miles of backroads only to find lots of logging going on here also. After a short wait we were allowed to pass and finally made it to our trailhead so we could begin our hike. Before heading to the summit, we took a detour on the Bruno Meadows trail to see the abundant wildflower display in the meadows. We then headed up to the summit for one of the best viewpoints in the Cascades where we could see the mountains from Diamond Peak in the south to Mount Adams in the north. The warm day and lack of shade on the summit forced us to retreat to the shaded forest to have our lunch before heading back to our trailhead.
