Trip Report

It has been a banner year for Bear Grass, and an abundant display of their tall stalks and a sprinkling of pink Rhododendron lined our trail as we made our way towards Bugaboo Ridge.
As we emerged onto the ridge line the skyline opened up with a panoramic view of Mount Jefferson, Three Finger Jack and the Three Sisters mountains. Our knowledgable Obsidians enjoyed identifying the colorful array of 45 varieties of wildflowers growing on the meadows below and in the rock formations above.
After several miles, we joined the stepper Bachelor Mountain trail heading up to the summit. This trail has a grand view of the distinctively flat Coffin Mountain.
The view from the old lookout site on Bachelor Mountain is one of the best in the Cascades and is highly recommended for mid June when the wildflowers are at their peak.
