Banks-Vernonia Bike

  • Start date: 06/23/2024

  • Start time: 10:00 AM

Description:

Meeting 10 AM at Banks Trailhead, Banks, Oregon (GPS 45.6221, -123.1140)
This is car-free rail-to-trail path ride along the scenic Banks-Vernonia State Trail. Plenty of scenic and historic highlights, including the Buxton Trestle.
After a leisurely lunch in restaurant in Vernonia, we’ll bike same way back. We should be back in Banks, Oregon around 3:30PM
In case of rain trip will be cancelled / rescheduled.
!! Due to trail maintenance the Banks-Vernonia State Trail will be closed between MP 4 and MP 7, so we will need to detour via a couple of surface roads. Consequently, I estimate that our total mileage will be 4 miles longer.
The Manning and Buxton trailhead parking lots and the Buxton trestle will remain open.

Trip Report

From steep and slow climbs, odd weary detours with over 2,700 feet of gain and sections zipping up to 29 MPH it was a fun 44-mile ride on the Banks-Vernonia trail. Lunch at the Blue House Armenian Restaurant was excellent. It was a delight to ride with this great group.
