Trip Report

This very fun trip focused on cycling, re-cycling, and re-using. We met at the Garten Materials Recover Facility in NE Salem for a very informative and educational tour. The company's mission is to provide jobs for persons with disabilities. In addition to sorting co-mingled recycling (what we put in our blue barrels), they shred sensitive documents, strip electronics for re-saleable parts, and restore the newer ones for sale in their store. Lunch was at Discovery Meadows Park in McMinnville where we celebrated Kitson's birthday with yummy Tuxedo cake and brownies. Of course, then it was time to cycle off a few calories - the 23 mile Muddy Valley Loop on back roads. We lingered over our delicious dinners at the McMennamin's Grand Lodge (re-purposed from a Masonic lodge). Overnight was at the Best Western Motel in Forrest Grove. After a tummy filling breakfast, we biked the re-purposed rails-to-trails Banks Vernonia walking and cycling trail - 42 miles round trip. Lunch was at the Blue House cafe where bikes are parked inside. Thanks to all the participants who made this trip easy and fun!
