Description:

Let's go find Berley Lakes! Always a challenge to get to Lower Berley, maybe we'll find Upper Berley too! Start from Santiam Pass Snopark, head north through the burn in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness following the Santiam Lake trail and hang a left when we get close to Lower Berley Lake. Visit one or both lakes and return the same route. Drivers need a Sno-park Permit.

Trip Report

Five skiers left from the Santiam Pass Sno-park on a warm, bluebird day. Heading north through the "burn" took us to the challenging section negotiating the ravine that Lake Creek flows down through. After multiple twists and turns, we came to the final turn to the west towards Berley Lakes. A leisurely, hour-long lunch stop at Upper Berley Lake with perfect views of Three Fingered Jack was our reward. After lunch, we returned via Lower Berley Lake. One member, Josh, choose to push on to the summit of Maxwell Butte. A great day to be on the snow!
