Trip Report

We had a good, if somewhat cloudy, day at Big Lake. Having snowed recently, the trails were in excellent condition. Although the clouds prevented us from seeing the excellent views of Mount Washington, the temperatures were pleasant and the winds did not pick up till the very end of the day. We snow shoed two miles on the west leg of the South Loop trail then went off trail until we found the road and intersection that took us to the campgrounds on the west side of the lake. Though these campgrounds are typically bustling with people and vehicles in the summer months, it was quite peaceful for our lunch over looking lovely Big Lake. After lunch we continued to make our way around to the south side of the lake. We snow shoed the road back to our trail head at Ray Benson Snow Park.
