Trip Report

It snowed endlessly for the days leading up to our snow shoe to Brandenburg Shelter. But on the day of our trip, the snow ceased and the sun shined bright. When we arrived at our trailhead, the sky was a lovely blue with patches of white and grey clouds overhead. Fresh, white snow covered the trees. And over a foot deep of new snow covered the unbroken trails ahead of us. Fortunately, we had a group of eleven able Obsidian trailbrakers. We took the southloop trail clockwise towards the shelter. After a couple of miles of trekking on the beautiful tree lined trail, the landscape opened up, giving us glorious views of flat Hayrick Butte and pointed Mount Washington. From there we continued on to lunch and take in the sights at Brandenburg Shelter. After lunch we completed to circle on the Shelter Loop then headed back. Forging the deep snow took an strong group effort, but it was certainly worthwhile given the variety and great mountain views this trail offers.
