Description:

We will park on the west edge of the OSU campus and meander along Arnold Way, through a covered bridge making our way to Bald Hill Park. At the park we will do a loop to the top and return to campus.

Trip Report

Eight eager explorers ventured north to Corvallis looking for a trail unencumbered by ice storm damage. Our optimism grew as we were greeted with sunny skies and spring like temperatures. We made quick progress along the paved bike path from the western edge of OSU campus, passing through research farm lands and crossing a rushing Oak Creek on the Irish Bend Covered Bridge. Originally built in 1954 across a Willamette River Slough near Monroe, the bridge was moved to OSU in 1989. After continuing past the fairgrounds on the Midge Cramer Path our progress slowed as we headed up "mucky mud" switchbacks and had to maneuver around a couple of downed trees. Our senses of humors intact we made it to the top and enjoyed views to the Coast Range and Cascade Foothills. The trip down the NW side of the hill was uneventful and we took time for a snack in Bald Hill Farm Barn. We enjoyed seeing many folks out enjoying the beautiful day!
