Description:

Broken Top is the prettiest mountain to climb in Oregon. Yep, I said it. The approach is gorgeous, following a glacier stream to Green Lakes, which is the final destination for most people. Then we get the bonus of climbing a gorgeous mountain too.
We will be doing the entire trip in one day. We'll leave from Eugene and 4am, hopefully hitting the trail by 6:30am. The climb will take us approximately 11 hours. Then drive home.
Broken Top requires being very comfortable with heights and exposure. The ridge heading to the summit is physical and requires upper body strength. There is a short rock climb that is about 5.4 rating. We will be roped up for that portion and we will rappel off that same portion.

  • Supplies and Equipment Required: Harness, rappel device, prusik, webbing for personal protection, three locking carabiners, helmet, headlamp, trail running shoes or light hiking boots (no need for mountaineering boots, and street running shoes are not acceptable (not enough traction for the terrain. Bring a couple of light layers, hat, gloves just in case. Bring food and water for a 14 hour day.
