Trip Report

Our small group started up the Fall Creek Trail to Green Lakes at about 11:30 on Saturday with the skies clouding over. The weather report was for deteriorating conditions going into the weekend. On our hike in we decided it would probably be a good idea to climb Broken Top as soon as we got to Green Lakes rather than to wait until the next morning. So upon arriving at our campsite at the springs above Green Lakes at 2:00 p.m., we threw up our tents and headed for the summit of Broken Top under lowering skies. As we started up, the leader had leg problems and turned back, but Ed and Jane continued on to the top, arriving at 5:15 p.m. Jane said that it was pretty nasty and they touched the top and came back down, arriving back in camp a little before 7:00. The weather continued to worsen with wind and rain during the night. The next morning we got up to snow flurries. Because of these conditions we decided to just hike out, which we did.
