Trip Report

On the weekend of June 30/July 1 we held our scheduled "Youth Climb" of Broken Top. The Obsidians hosted members of the South Eugene High School Mountaineering Club for this successful and enjoyable climb. Obsidian Dan Hagen, co-leader and recent South graduate, organized the event and assembled a strong group of aspiring young climbers (kindly allowing his Dad and me to tag along!). The weather was perfect for the nice hike to Green Lakes, a quite night's camp and the fun trek up the N.W. ridge to the scenic views of Broken Top's rugged summit. Everyone in the group did a great job with no problems but blisters on a few feet. Thanks to Dan for putting this outing together and to everyone who participated. It was truly a fun weekend. SEHS climbers were Molly Betty, Jenny Clark, Maeve Granzin, David Hagen, Michelle Rear, and Lindsay Schauer and Obsidians Daniel Hagen and Doug Nelson (leader).
