Trip Report

We were very fortunate to be able to have Bill Burwell talk to us about our local Calapuya (proper spelling) Indians at the March Potluck. These peaceful Indians lived in summer and winter grounds in so many places we have hiked and driven by such as Gold Hill, Upper McKenzie and Upper Willamette. They lost about 90% of their tribe to smallpox in the 1600s. By the time the settlers arrived in the 1800s there was only a small number of these wonderful people surviving.

82 people were on hand to enjoy the dinner and Bill's presentation. Our kitchen workers we want to thank are Phyllis Early and Margaret Wiese. Also thanks to everyone who helped with clean-up.
