Five hard working trail builders returned to work on the Castle Rock Trail on Saturday, June 20. Though not perfect, the upper trail is now in reasonably good condition. The "pulaski kids" were Shirley Froyd, Margaret Wiese, Leona Devine, Don Sullivan, and Larry Cash. The next scheduled work day will be Saturday, July 25. Watch the "Y" bulletin board for details.

Also watch for the next work day for the Eugene-Pacific Crest Trail project, now scheduled for Saturday, July 11. This is a joint Obsidian-Sierra Club project, led by Jerold Williams. Like the Pacific Crest Trail, much of the 70-odd miles of this trail will consist of portions of existing trails. For instance, the western end of the Bobby Lake Trail (3663) is the final link to the PCT. <hr align="center" width="25%"> Although most of the trails used by Obsidians are the responsibility of the agency or other body having jurisdiction over the land, usually the U.S. Forest Service or the BLM, it has become quite apparent that they won't be kept up the way we want them unless we help with the job. That is part of the price we should be willing to pay for the use of the trails. The Obsidian Board of Directors has voted to adopt a segment of the Pacific Crest Trail and the Tahkenitch Dunes-Threemile Lake Trail south of Florence. The 8.8-mile segment of the PCT runs from Hwy 58 north past Rosary Lakes to the junction with the Bobby Lake Trail. Both of these trails are regularly used by Obsidians. The PCT segment is a popular cross-country ski trail during the winter. - Larry Cash
