Trip Report

During the day there was sunshine, rain and snow showers. We picked up work tools at McKenzie Ranger Station and drove to the trailhead on King Road near the Belknap covered bridge. Access to the upper trailhead was blocked by snow. We cleared debris and trimmed limbs only on the lower four miles. The earliest spring flowers were in bloom. Under the forest canopy were purple snow queens, calypso orchid, yellow wood violet and trillium. In the clearing where we ate lunch there was an abundance of red and white flowers of gummy gooseberry. A mountain biker raced by us on the otherwise empty trail. Laboring in the fresh mountain air were Max Brown, Sig Otto and Dave Predeek, leader.
