Trip Report

If you love hiking idyllic Clear lake in the summer, then you would love snow shoeing it on a perfect winter morning. There are no blue diamonds, but the summer trail hugs the shoreline and you can follow it around the lake. The snow is deep this year, so deciding to avoid the north foot bridge over Fish Lk Creek, we ss out and back.
As we set out counter clockwise from the resort, the trees were reflected in the still water and Mount Washington could be spotted in the distant sky. After a little over a mile we reached the south foot bridge. People employed interesting techniques to get across. We made it around to the east shore, emerging out of the trees to the dramatic and beautiful sight of the lava fields. The sun beat down, illuminating the snow covered lava. The lake sparkled. We continued over the open lava fields then stopped for lunch. Some Obsidians enjoyed lunch at water's edge, where families of ducks could be seen swimming by. Others took lunch perched up on a rock, where they basked in the sun with views of what Mike identified as Browder Ridge .
It was a wonderful day and several members of the group have become fans of Clear Lake in the winter.
