Description:

If you hate those frantic mornings where you don't have time to make yourself a decent breakfast or even a cup of coffee, this is the hike for you! Just roll out of bed and meet us in Springfield at 7:30.

We'll start with breakfast together at Craig's Lucky Logger in Walterville before continuing on to Koosah Falls, where we will park and hike down the west side of the McKenzie to the reservoir, where we will cross over to the east side and follow the river past the waterfalls to the trail to Clear Lake. We'll circle the lake counter clockwise and have lunch around the resort before continuing back to Koosah Falls along the west side of the McKenize River. Optional stop at Takoda's on the way back., so be sure to talk to your driver about that.

Fall foliage should be in full swing and the skies should be clear and sunny.

Trip Report

We began our morning with breakfast at the Lucky Logger Cafe in Walterville. With a great name like that, we expected a groovy local PNW vibe, and we were not disappointed. Logging art on the walls, wooden tables filled with wilderness fire fighters, good menu, good prices, good service, good food. We all agreed we'd go back. Dishes sampled included generous portions of omelets, mega-burritos, pancakes, eggs and French toast.

Thus fortified, we completed the drive to Koosah Falls, and hiked the east side of the McKenzie across to Clear Lake, and counter clockwise around the lake for a late lunch at a lakeside picnic table by the resort. We continued to our cars on the west side of the McKenzie, making a big 9.5 mile figure 8.

The leaves that had turned were spectacular but not quite peaking, so I'd say you have a couple more weeks to catch the fall foliage extravaganza. Don't miss it!
