Trip Report

We left V.RC. on a Very warm sunny day and drove to I-5 to the Lebanon cutoff, driving through Lebanon to Stayton City Park with the historic Jordan Bridge. We had coffee and cookies, etc., and had an unexpected Visit from Kirk Ward who promoted bringing the Jordan Bridge to this area. He gave us all the details of how the bridge was moved and finally the high school students painting it. The bridge is now a Stayton landmark. We also Visited the small but interesting Stayton Museum. We continued, going through Sublimity to the entrance to the Oregon Garden, where we found several changes since the new pavilion was built. We drove to the top of the hill and went through their new ticket booth, where our hands were stamped. We had lunch and rode the Shuttle and then drove to Mt. Angel. It was a warm day and we arrived at the Abbey looking for shade. We visited the Russian Museum and the Abbey Museum and really enjoyed the views, especially the mountains. We returned to the Silverton City Park for an afternoon break and arrived home at 5:30. Many thanks to Rosella who grew up in Stayton and had compiled a scrapbook of the town.
