Coyote Creek Paddle

  • Start date: 06/22/2023

  • Start time: 12:00 AM

  • End date: 06/22/2023

  • End time: 11:59 PM

Description:

We'll meet at Target and then caravan to the put-in on Cantrell Road. Coyote Creek flows into Fern Ridge and is a birdwatcher's paradise. It reminds me of a bayou! We'll start by paddling upstream (the current is barely noticeable) until we reach a log jam and then we'll turn around and paddle under Highway 126 into the reservoir. This is flat water- no riffles. We'll plan on being back at the put-in by noon-12:30.

Trip Report

We paddled in silence for a half hour; many magical moments. Invisible birds singing; hummingbirds, turkey vultures, swallows. Clouds of gnats whirling counterclockwise. Skimmers dancing on the water. Cloud formations. Reflections; stumps, bubbles, trees. Stately oak trees dripping moss. Flowers; wild roses, spirea, bittersweet nightshade; vetch, blackberries. Note to self: paddle again in August and enjoy the fruit.
