We will drive to the Safeway in Sweet Home, stop for bathroom break, and continue further northeast. From the trail-head, we will hike down to a beautiful valley with a sparkling lake ringed by large firs and cedars. Waterdog Meadow overlook is our lunch destination. After the lunch we'll bush-walk 0.8 miles through Skunk Cabbage, and swampy Devil’s Club jungle to the area with dozens of huge trees, including one of the world largest known Douglas fir, “King Tut”.
➽ Drivers be aware. From Sweet Home to Crabtree trailhead is a long drive on winding road. Last half mile is somewhat bad road.

Trip Report

In great October’s morning our enthusiastic group hiked lush verdant trail to the Crabtree Lake. Then, after the lakeside hike to the group of huge trees we stopped at Waterdog Meadow overlook for our lunch.
After the lunch we continued west, bushwalking on old overgrown road and further through skunk cabbage and devils club marshland, to the one of world largest known Douglas fir “King Tut”.
Thanks to Tom and Holger, with their tree locating GPS support.
