Crawfish Lake Conditioning Hike

Description:

We will do a modified loop (P shape) hike on trails and Forest Service roads above Brice Creek. We may get into a bit of crusty snow above 4000'. Expect a brisk pace with few rest stops. Bring along your summit pack loaded with climbing gear (ice axe, helmet, crampons, etc.) for extra "cool" points.

Scouted the hike on 4/22. Looks like there's still up to 4' of snow on upper road. Gaiters are recommended.

Trip Report

Moderate temps made for a pleasant exercise hike in the hills above Brice Creek, the only down-side being the background noise from helicopter logging over a ridge to the north. After visiting Marten Spring we hiked about a mile on the snow-covered Adams Mtn road, then descended to Crawfish Lake. After lunch we hiked several miles of Forest Service roads, finally returning to the Adams Mtn Way trail via a new, unofficial mountain biker cut trail, and then back to the car at the Lund Park CG.
