Trip Report

Deception Creek's soon-to-be-helicoptered-in bridging member - a beautiful, 55 foot straight-grain Old Growth Douglas-fir that was probably 8O or more years old the day it was felled - lay clean-cut and ready, its top walking surface accurately in place (nice work, Forest Service!), its 3-inch thick layer of bark waiting to be removed. Removed it was! Debarking techniques ranged from double-bit axe swings, hand axe chipping, and Pulaski hacking. Now The Log lays ready (except for the under surface on which it rests) for its final move later this month. Log-skinners were Mary Bridgeman, Peter Cecil, Helen Smith and leader John Cecil.
