Description:

I plan to visit Delta Ponds early each month thru Spring 2027 to see how the duck population changes as visitors migrate in and out.

We will meet at the Owens Rose Garden, where Jefferson St. ends by the Willamette River. The pace to and from the ponds will be moderate to brisk, we will slow down when we get there. Inclement weather is, as you know, good for ducks so that won’t stop us! However, the newer section of the pond trail floods after heavy rain so waterproof shoes may be necessary.

Bring your binocs, but leave that spotting scope home! (Come back on your own and dawdle all you want.) There are only a dozen or so ducks we should expect to encounter. Some only show up for a month (or a day) or two, others are residents. The free Audubon app is user friendly and has up-to-date sightings.

Those who prefer a longer walk may continue upriver to the Owosso Bridge before returning, a 7.5 mile loop.
