Trip Report

North Cascades Extended Trip
Friday - Diablo Lake

It was Fun! On Friday, we awoke to a partly cloudy morning. Jim came around. “knocking” on our tent doors to tell us we needed to leave a half hour earlier than planned in order to catch the 8:30 boat across Diablo Lake to get to the trailhead. Arriving at the boat launch on time, we put on our hats, hood and gloves against the cold wind. During the 20 minute boat ride, there were magnificent trees and shoreline cliffs. Disembarking, we crossed the pedestrian suspension bridge. After one false start, we found the trail, switch-backing up the hill, high above the lake, but with a clear view of its turquoise blue water. We walked steadily for four miles, stopping to have lunch on a rocky beach and napping briefly beside the lake. Then we finished with a short walk to the cars. All in all, a fun combination of boating and hiking.
