Trip Report

Seven gingery Obsidians kicked up their heels and sashayed right up to the very apex of Diamond Peak on Sunday, September 5. There was not a cloud in the sky and not a whisper of wind. We could see 9 of the 10 major Oregon Peaks, including the one we were standing on. We couldn't see North Sister as it was tucked in behind South. Many, Many very tiny spiders were sharing the summit with us. We had departed from our Summit Lake car camp at 7:00 a.m., journeyed north on the PCT for 2½ miles then N.N.W. to the South ridge, over the false summit, scrambled and bouldered along the summit ridge, and then a little scramble up to the top. Our lead group was up in three hours and the caboosers in 4 hours. Fine climb, fine day, fine view; what more can I say? Climbers were Sharon Fraley, Brandon Harmon, Betty Harmon, Ed Lovegren, Ralph Nafziger, and co-leaders Arran & Parker Riddle.
