Description:

Diamond Peak is a good introduction to non-technical snow climbing. At 8750 ft, it is the tallest mountain in the Willamette Pass area. We will be climbing via the Pioneer Gulch route, which is 8 miles round trip and almost 4,000 ft of elevation gain.

  • Supplies and Equipment Required: You will need an ice axe, crampons, day pack with proper clothing (several non-cotton layers) and food and water (min of 2 liters) for a long day on the mountain. Snowshoes will be helpful and poles. If you would like to ski it, please let me know and we can work that out.

Trip Report

We had a fantastic climb on Diamond Peak. The weather was brilliant and everyone did great on the way up. We were on top at noon, had lunch, summit treats and then began our descent. Three people skied it while the rest had a long glissade down the bowl.
